Chicago Green Jobs

About this Blog

Kate Eyler-Werve is a green professional in Chicago (LinkedIn profile). Check out the evidence of her work out in the wild:

And in the “less showy but more impressively integrated into the business” category we have Alston+Bird’s excellent sustainability page. In an ideal world I’d be able to share the sustainability rap video their DC office made – there’s nothing more awesome than lawyers rapping about recycling! – but it is, alas, proprietary.

Dear Sir or Madam,

Hello, my name is Ry Finerty. I am proudly serving with City Year, a nonprofit organization that places dedicated volunteers in middle schools and high schools all over the world to help address the drop-out crisis. This year I am serving at Orr Academy High School, tutoring 9th grade English. I am writing with regards to an event that City Year is planning for December, called ‘Passion Project’. The idea is to allow Corps Members to “tail” someone for a day. The hope is to encourage them to pursue and learn more about any career they might be interested in. After having been at Orr for 2 months now, one of the biggest things I worry about is my students’ lack of a balanced diet, painfully embodied by our cafeteria food.

After having read your numerous postings, I am convinced that you are a fantastic resource in this matter. Is there an organization or initiative here in Chicago that you think would be a good fit for me? I specifically mentioned diet earlier, but naturally I would be very open to other possibilities as well. Thank you so much for your time, and I look forward to our future correspondence.

Hi there – I don’t think I’m a good match for your project because I work from home, which is just not that thrilling to watch! Your org looks fantastic and I wish you luck.

Cheers,
K
